More than 1,000 Falun Gong practitioners held a rally in front of the Consulate General of China in New York.

Ms. Yi Rong, president of the Tuidang Center, gave a speech at the rally. She called the past 17 years of Falun Gong persecution a rampant trampling of humanity, universal values, and five-thousand-years of civilization. She said, “Facing the Chinese Communist Party’s brutal persecution, the Falun Gong group stood firmly on the principles of Truthfulness, Compassion, and Forbearance. Practitioners have peacefully and rationally helped 244 million people withdraw from the communist organizations.”

Dr. Li Tianxiao, a political analyst, said during his speech, that instead of yielding, Falun Gong practitioners had exposed the persecution to people in all circles of life using various means around the world. Their banners and activities have been visible in places from Tiananmen Square, to the Chinese embassies and consulates, to every country, and that their seemingly ordinary appeals have shown unprecedented bravery.

Dr. Li stressed that Falun Gong has miraculously displayed a peaceful resistance to the persecution, and behind the miracle was a simple word, faith. He said it was the faith of practitioners that made them able to endure torture, to turn the hardest situation around, and to free hundreds of millions of people from the CCP, and that their strong faith in Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance made them invincible.

Dr. Wang Zhiyuan, president of World Organization to Investigate the Persecution of Falun Gong (WOIPFG), spoke at the rally. He said, “The CCP’s persecution of Falun Gong is genocide and a crime against humanity under the direction of Jiang Zemin. Organ harvesting from living practitioners, and tortures using psychiatric means, are the most evil crimes in history.” Dr. Wang also pointed out that many of the chief perpetrators have been arrested, one after another, and the same ending is approaching Jiang Zemin, Zeng Qinghong, and Luo Gan. He warned that the countdown to the day of the CCP’s collapse has started.

Falun Gong practitioners Mr. Tang Zhiheng, Ms. Li Dianqin, and Mr. Yang Xiaoping recounted the persecution they personally experienced in China. Mr. Tang has been arrested eight times, thrown into a forced labor camp for two years, and prison for four and an half years. Ms. Li was tortured in mental hospitals twice, imprisoned in Masanjia Forced Labor Camp for a year, and in the Women’s Prison of Liaoning Province for three years. Mr. Yang was arrested twice for appealing for Falun Gong. He was also imprisoned, and his home was searched by police.

Falun Gong practitioners’ candlelight vigil in front of the Chinese Consulate in New York marks 17 years of peaceful resistance to the CCP’s brutal persecution.

As it turned dark, practitioners in yellow T-shirts lit candles, and sat solemnly along the Hudson River, mourning their fellow practitioners in China who paid with their lives due to the persecution. Their banners stood out amidst the silence, stating, “Falun Dafa Is Good,” “Stop Persecuting Falun Gong,” and “Bring Jiang to Justice.”

Xinjiang Engineer Dies Within Three Months of Her Transfer to Prison

July 29, 2016 | By a Minghui correspondent in Xinjiang Autonomous Region, China

(Minghui.org) An engineer from Karamay, Xinjiang Autonomous Region died 83 days after she was admitted to Xinjiang Women’s Prison in Urumqi to serve five years for filing a criminal complaint against Jiang Zemin.

Ms. Zhao Shuyuan accused the former Chinese dictator of initiating the persecution of Falun Gong that resulted in her 9-year imprisonment earlier.

The 52-year-old woman was arrested on November 5, 2015 and sentenced to prison on March 7 of this year. She appealed, only to have her verdict upheld without an open hearing.

She was transferred to Xinjiang Women’s Prison on May 3. Her health quickly declined as the guards kept force-feeding and torturing her. Meanwhile, the prison denied her medical parole. Even after she fell into a coma on three occasions, they still refused to render proper treatment. She died on July 22.

Her family requested that her body be sent back to Karamay, but the prison authorities forcibly moved it to a morgue in Urumqi and threatened to have it cremated within 10 days.

Medical Parole Request Repeatedly Denied

When Ms. Zhao’s two lawyers met with her on May 31, they noticed she was extremely emaciated, weighing around 70 pounds. They immediately filed a request for her medical parole, but it was rejected.

Her son and lawyers made a second request on June 23, only to be denied again. They next visited the prison administrative bureau, but their quest for her medical parole went nowhere.

No Proper Treatment Despite Comatose State

Ms. Zhao fell into a coma three times in her final days, but was never given proper treatment.

She first lost consciousness on June 26. The guards rushed her to a local hospital, but took her back as soon as she came to hours later.

She fell into a coma again on July 12, and the doctors issued a “serious condition” notice. The guards brought her back the very next day.

She was in and out of a coma for a third time on July 19. Despite the critical condition notice issued by the doctors, prison officials planned to bring her back on the second day, citing lack of funds to cover her medical expenses.

Her family strongly requested she stay in the hospital for further treatment at their own expense. The prison officials relented, but it was too late. She would die three days later.

Background

In 1999, Jiang Zemin, as head of the Chinese Communist Party, overrode other Politburo standing committee members and launched the violent suppression of Falun Gong.

The persecution has led to the deaths of many Falun Gong practitioners over the past 17 years. More have been tortured for their belief and even killed for their organs. Jiang Zemin is directly responsible for the inception and continuation of the brutal persecution.

Under his personal direction, the Chinese Communist Party established an extralegal security organ, the “610 Office,” on June 10, 1999. The organization overrides police forces and the judicial system in carrying out Jiang’s directive regarding Falun Gong: to ruin their reputations, cut off their financial resources, and destroy them physically.

Chinese law allows for citizens to be plaintiffs in criminal cases, and many practitioners are now exercising that right to file criminal complaints against the former dictator.

Prison Guards: “We Simply Don’t Treat Falun Gong People as Humans”

July 28, 2016 | By a Minghui correspondent in Shandong Province, China

(Minghui.org) Two Falun Gong practitioners in Shandong Province were illegally arrested for disseminating information about Falun Gong and the persecution and were taken to the Shandong Province Women’s Prison in Jinan City.

The practitioners told of the inhuman treatment they experienced while incarcerated, especially solitary confinement.

The guards placed practitioners in a solitary confinement cell if they refused to give up Falun Gong. The cells are small and dark, with a cold cement floor. There is only a small stool in the cell.

Practitioners ate, slept, and relieved themselves in the small cell. They were locked in the room for a long time, without sunlight or fresh air. Additionally, they were not allowed to have contact with their families or anyone else.

The winter in Jinan City is cold and harsh. Practitioners in solitary were not provided a winter jacket, but only long underwear. They were given just a thin blanket which did not keep them warm.

It was impossible to get any sleep on the cold floor because of the freezing temperature. Practitioners had to walk around to try to get warm.

Lack of sleep gave them headaches. Without any furnishing and given the severe cold, their bones ached, and their muscles cramped. Many practitioners became ill and developed a high fever.

Jinan City is like a furnace in the summer. The small isolation cells can reach over 100 degrees Fahrenheit and the ventilation is poor. Practitioners who weren’t well to begin with often fainted after being in the small cell for a short period of time.

The female guards would not provide toilet paper or feminine hygiene products to practitioners in the small cell.

When asked why they were so inhuman toward practitioners, the guards responded, “We simply don’t treat Falun Gong people as humans.”

Delhi, India: The Times of India Reports on Falun Dafa

July 22, 2016

(Minghui.org) The Times of India newspaper (the third largest in India) published a report on July 18, 2016, entitled “Falun Dafa: An attempt to cultivate good, eliminate bad.”

“If you observe closely, you might find them in public parks, schools or houses, exercising in slow rhythmic movements to the sound of music, or practicing meditation,” begins the article.

“Falun Dafa, or Falun Gong, a spiritual philosophy with its roots in the 90s in China, has a sizable presence in India, with over 25 places of practice in Nagpur city alone, besides its presence in over 114 other countries.”

2016-7-18-india-01

The article talked about a three-day Falun Dafa conference in the city, at Ambedkar Hall, Chhatrapati Nagar that was attended by over 100 Falun Dafa practitioners from 15 cities. The conference involved practitioners sharing experiences in the practice and insights gained from reading the Falun Dafa Books. The group conducted a march from Ambedkar Hall to Samvidhan Chowk. A candlelight vigil was also held to pay tribute to the Falun Dafa practitioners suffering persecution by the Chinese Communist Party (CCP).

“The USA, European Union and several other countries have condemned the Chinese order [to persecute Falun Dafa],” noted the article, after explaining how the practice came under attack by the communist regime in 1999 when the number of practitioners reached 70 million.

“Truth, compassion and tolerance are the three tenets of this philosophy,” stated the article and that the practice was introduced in 1992 by Li Hongzhi in China. “Li Hongzhi has been nominated for the Nobel peace prize three times. [Falun Dafa] was introduced in India in 2000, starting from New Delhi.”

Marc Luburic, a native of Australia, who runs a talent management agency in Mumbai, has been practicing Falun Dafa for four years. “’The practice isn’t so much about the exercises, but as a means of cultivating your mind and heart,’ he says. Luburic recalls popping pills, getting injections and drinking in moments of stress before being introduced to the philosophy. He says, within a week of following the exercises, his body no longer craved for alcohol or other substances. Good health and curing of illnesses is a by-product of the practice, he said.

The article also quotes the president of the Falun Dafa Association in India, Suren Rao, a freelance creative writer based in Kolkata, who said, “’Looking within is the focus of the practice. Instead of pointing fingers, we need an understanding that the problem originates from us, and can be solved by us.’”

Judge Upholds Prison Sentence of Doctor for Practicing Falun Gong

July 26, 2016 | By a Minghui correspondent from Guangdong Province, China

(Minghui.org) Dr. Wu Zhiqi, a doctor from Maoming, Guangdong Province, appealed his three-year-and-three-month prison sentence for his spiritual belief in Falun Gong, given by the Dianbai District Court. Two months later, his lawyer received a phone call from the first instance court, that the higher court had made a decision about his appeal.

The lawyer and Dr. Wu’s family were asked to come to the court on the morning of June 29, 2016.

As soon as Dr. Wu’s family and his lawyer entered the courtroom in Dianbai Court on June 29, Lin Ming, the judge who sentenced Dr. Wu, approached and told them that his sentence had been upheld. He asked Dr. Wu’s wife to sign the verdict, but she refused.

The judge said to them: “Whether you sign it or not, the decision takes effect immediately.”

He left the paper with Dr. Wu’s wife and walked out.

Secret Trial

Dr. Wu was arrested on November 19, 2015 and had been detained at the Dianbai No. 1 Detention Center since then.

The Dianbai District Court held the first hearing of Dr. Wu on April 7, 2016. His defense lawyer, Mr. Zhang Zanning, was barred from entering the courtroom, and judge Lin appointed two lawyers for him without his consent. The judge didn’t announce a verdict at the end of the hearing.

On April 28, 2016, judge Lin notified Dr. Wu’s wife and daughter to come to the court, without telling them why.

While they were talking to the judge, the wife noticed a police car arriving at the court, with Dr. Wu sitting inside. She and her daughter followed as Dr. Wu was led into the court.

They were shocked by what unfolded. Judge Lin conducted a closed trial of Dr. Wu and sentenced him to three years and three months. The entire trial lasted less than 30 minutes.

Judge and Detention Center Attempted to Obstruct Family Visitation

After Dr. Wu’s family and his lawyer received the court order of upholding his sentence on June 29, they went to the detention center to meet with him.

The guard who received them said that they had to acquire permission from judge Lin in order to meet with Dr. Wu.

Once they contacted Lin, he demanded that Dr. Wu’s family show their residential registration record before they were allowed to visit him.

Dr. Wu’s wife had to go back home to get it.

After they returned to the detention center, the guard said that only people listed on the residential registration record were allowed to see him. However, as his children had grown up and moved out, they weren’t on the record anymore.

The guard insisted that he was following the rules and that only those on the record, which only contained Dr. Wu’s wife, were allowed to see him.

Dr. Wu’s lawyer argued with him, saying that he had never heard of such a regulation regarding family visitation.

“That’s the rule we have here,” the guard answered.

“Are my client’s children not his children just because they aren’t on his residential registration record?” the lawyer asked. He called the police department in Beijing and was about to file a complaint against the detention center for unreasonably obstructing his client’s family visitation.

With help from the lawyer, the detention center finally allowed Dr. Wu’s daughter and sister to meet with him.

According to Dr. Wu’s family, he had lost nearly 30 pounds during his detention there. He looked anxious and distressed. His family is really worried about him.

Three Chinese Court Cases Highlight the Unlawful Nature of the Persecution of Falun Gong

July 25, 2016 | By You Ran

(Minghui.org) During the 17-year-long persecution of Falun Gong in China, many practitioners in Tianjin, Beijing’s largest nearby neighbor, have been arrested for their belief. Below are three cases from earlier this year illustrating how innocent practitioners are arrested, detained, and tried for no reason.

Technical Expert Imprisoned for Belief

Li Wen had the highest GPA in his class when he graduated from the renowned Tsinghua University with a degree in mechanical engineering in 1991. He was employed as a lead engineer at a factory that manufacturers glass products and television parts. He holds a number of patents and has garnered many awards from his company.

Mr. Li and his wife were arrested in July 2001 for practicing Falun Gong. He was sentenced to seven years imprisonment and held in Tianjin Prison. The management at his company sought his release, but officials rejected their requests. Company representatives were forced to visit Mr. Li in prison to get technical assistance.

In July 2015, Mr. Li was again arrested, this time while at home. He was put on trial in Hexi District Court on March 28, and his attorney Yu Wensheng pleaded not guilty, “At least 100 lawyers, in more than 1000 court trials, have pointed out the suppression of Falun Gong had no legal basis. Article 300 of Chinese Criminal Law has been abused to frame Falun Gong practitioners,” the lawyer said during the trial. The lawyer said he was attempting to not only to safeguard Falun Gong practitioners’ basic rights, but to also to stop law enforcement officials’ unlawful actions.

Defense Attorney Detained

Ninghe County Court held a trial against Mo Weiqiu in December 2015, and her husband Li Guangyuan chose to defend her. But the judge did not allow Mr. Li speak, other than answering yes or no when the judge asked questions. The trial lasted half an hour. Mr. Li asked the judge it would be impossible for the five computers found in Ms. Mo’s home to be presented as material evidence, but the court dismissed his request and said Ms. Mo would be sentenced to three to six years.

The judge asked Ms. Mo’s daughter and other relatives to leave the courtroom, and then had Mr. Li arrested. Police confiscated 7,000 yuan that he was carrying on him, and after being detained for 29 days he was forced to pay a fine.

False Testimony from Anonymous Witnesses

Two other practitioners, Chen Yuanhua and Yang Fujing, were on trial on January 26, 2016, when the chief judge asked them if they had distributed Falun Gong materials and if they were guilty. Both women said they were not distributing Falun Gong materials when they were arrested, and that they did not commit any crime. The women told the judges that freedom of belief is protected by the Chinese Constitution.

The prosecutor said three village residents were walking on the street after 1am on August 27 last year when they saw Ms. Chen and Ms. Yang distributing Falun Gong materials. The defense attorney refuted this claim, because his clients were arrested the evening of August 26 and already in custody at the time. He requested the three witnesses present their testimony in the court room and that the prosecutor present some material evidence. But both requests were rejected by the judge.

Ms. Chen and Ms. Yang were sentenced to 4 and 3 ½ years imprisonment, respectively.

Ninghe Court sentenced Ms. Mo to 4 ½ years imprisonment on April 27.

Shenyang Practitioners Arrested for Talking about Falun Dafa

July 24, 2016 | By a Minghui correspondent in Liaoning Province, China

(Minghui.org) Six Falun Dafa practitioners from Kangping County, Shenyang City, were arrested on June 24, 2016, while they were talking to people in the countryside about the persecution of Falun Dafa.

Two elderly practitioners were released that evening due to their old age. One practitioner escaped, and practitioner Ms. Tang Xiuxia was released the next day after the detention center refused to admit her due to her high blood pressure. Ms. Wang Hongying and Ms. Zhao Xiujuan were detained for three days and released on bail, pending trial. They’ve been harassed twice since their release.

The Arrest

Officers led by Wang Shunde, director of Beisiiazi County Police Station, arrested the six practitioners and took them to the police station.

The practitioners told the officers that the persecution of Falun Dafa is lawless and wrong, but Wang refused to listen. He claimed, “I will send you to jail even if I receive retribution.”

Wang ordered the blood tests administered to the three practitioners at 10:00 p.m. that night.

Doing Whatever He Could to Detain Practitioners

Preparing for their detention, Wang took the three practitioners to a hospital for the physical exams required by the detention center. Ms. Tang’s blood pressure reached 180 mmHg, and Ms. Wang’s reached 190 mmHg. But Wang insisted on taking them to the Shenyang Detention Center.

Wang tried to hide the fact that the two practitioners had high blood pressure. But the guard at the detention center took their blood pressure and refused to admit the two practitioners because of their high blood pressure.

Wang then took them to a hospital and forced them to take medication to lower their blood pressure. Ms. Wang took the medication, but Ms. Tang spit hers out. Wang ordered five officers to hold Ms. Tang and force her to take the pill, but her blood pressure still remained high.

Wang took Ms. Tang to a different hospital for another physical exam, and her blood pressure was still high. They took her back to the detention center, and the detention center still refused to admit her. They had to release her the next day.

Harassed After Release

Ms. Wang and Ms. Zhao were detained at the detention center. They were released on bail, pending trial, on June 27. Wang ordered officers to harass them on June 30 and July 1. Officers confiscated personal belongings from the practitioners, and they also tried to obtain information about the practitioner who escaped on the night of their arrests.
