Woman Sentenced to Prison for Suing Authorities for Her Suffering in the Persecution

September 02, 2016 | By a Minghui correspondent in Heilongjiang Province, China

(Minghui.org) A teacher in Jiansanjiang was sentenced to three years in prison for filing a lawsuit against the local brainwashing center that kept her captive after her 4-year imprisonment. She was targeted by the authorities for practicing Falun Gong, a spiritual discipline persecuted by the Chinese regime since 1999.

When Ms. Jiang Xinbo was released from prison on September 9, 2013, she was taken straight to Qinglongshan Brainwashing Center (in Jiansanjiang), where she was confined for two months and tortured. However, she was taken back to the brainwashing center in February 2014 and not released until April 23.

Her latest arrest came when police took her from her home at the end of 2015 and put her in a detention center the next day. After holding a hunger strike for 12 days, Ms. Jiang was transferred to Hegang City Second Detention Center and placed under criminal detention.

Ms. Jiang continued her hunger strike. The guards forcibly administered intravenous injections. She was denied meetings with her lawyer because she refused to wear a black headcover during the visits.

Her family was notified of her arrest in February 2016. She was tried on July 8 by Jiansanjiang Court. Prior to the trial, the authorities threatened several Falun Gong practitioners in the city not to appear at the trial. On the day of the trial, a dozen police cars surrounded the court, and many officers guarded the entrance. Armed police units patrolled major roads to Jiansanjiang.

The trial started at 10 a.m. and lasted for three hours. Ms. Jiang was allowed to speak for about ten minutes. No verdict was issued that day. A month later on August 10, the court sentenced Ms. Jiang to three years in prison and fined her 30,000 yuan (~$4,500 USD).

Falun Gong Practitioners from Jinchang City, Gansu Province Sue Jiang Zemin

October 06, 2015

(Minghui.org) Many Falun Gong practitioners from Jinchang City, Gansu Province have filed criminal complaints against Jiang Zemin recently, according to reports compiled by the Minghui website.

The practitioners charge the former Chinese dictator with initiating the brutal suppression of Falun Gong and hold him responsible for the tremendous suffering inflicted upon them by his campaign. The criminal complaints were mailed to the Supreme People’s Court and Supreme People’s Procuratorate.

Many of these practitioners recounted how Falun Gong returned them to health and gave them a new outlook on life. Their dream to live a healthier and happier life, however, was shattered when Jiang Zemin launched a nationwide campaign to eradicate the practice in 1999.

Simply for refusing to give up their belief, they were arrested, detained, tortured, and had their homes ransacked and personal belongings seized by the communist authorities. Many also saw their families implicated for their belief; some were also forced to pay huge fines.

Some Jinchang City practitioners who filed criminal complaints were in their seventies. Below, we profile four such practitioners.

Ms. Shi Ruzhen, 76, once worked in Gansu Province Geo-Exploration and Mining Development Bureau. Her home was ransacked three times—2000, 2001, and 2009. On March 16, 2010, she was sentenced to three years in prison.

Ms. Yang Xiufang (楊秀芳), a retiree from Jinchuan, was arrested four times and taken to the addiction treatment center twice for more than four months. During her forced detention authorities made her pay for her living expenses. She was forced to pay frequent fines even though her pension was suspended from 2002 to 2006.

Bowing to pressure from the CCP and police, Ms. Yang’s husband gave up the practice of Falun Gong that removed his diseases and brought him good heath. In 2004, he suffered a stroke and couldn’t take care of himself.

Ms. Zhang Shumei, 68, who retired from Yongchang Carpet Factory, was arrested twice, at the end of 1999 and 2002 for more than six months. Police told her family to pay for her living expenses in the detention center.

Police went to his home and harassed her almost every month. Ms. Zhang said she had no idea how many times her home had been ransacked. They yelled at her, “If you continue practicing Falun Gong, we will cut off your retirement pension, then you will have nothing to eat!”

Under intense threats and pressure, Ms. Zhang Shumen’s husband suffered a heart attack and passed away two years later.

Ms. Kong Shuying, 70, was arrested three times and taken to an addiction treatment center once. Police went to her home to harassed her for several days. Her five-year-old grandson was so frightened that he peed in his pants. She was forced to leave home to avoid persecution, but police never stop monitoring her.

Background

In 1999, Jiang Zemin, as head of the Chinese Communist Party, overrode other Politburo standing committee members and launched the violent suppression of Falun Gong.

The persecution has led to the deaths of many Falun Gong practitioners in the past 16 years. More have been tortured for their belief and even killed for their organs. Jiang Zemin is directly responsible for the inception and continuation of the brutal persecution.

Under his personal direction, the Chinese Communist Party established an extralegal security organ, the “610 Office,” on June 10, 1999. The organization overrides police forces and the judicial system in carrying out Jiang’s directive regarding Falun Gong: to ruin their reputations, cut off their financial resources, and destroy them physically.

Chinese law allows for citizens to be plaintiffs in criminal cases, and many practitioners are now exercising that right to file criminal complaints against the former dictator.

Special Forum on Organ Trafficking at European Society for Organ Transplantation Congress

September 27, 2015 | By a Falun Gong practitioner in Belgium

(Minghui.org) A special forum on organ trafficking was held at the 17th Congress of the European Society for Organ Transplantation (ESOT) in Brussels, Belgium, September 13 to 16, 2015. The practice of illegal organ transplants in China captured the attention of the forum participants.

More than 3000 people attended. Doctors Against Forced Organ Harvesting (DAFOH) was invited to attend. DAFOH conducts investigations about China’s live organ harvesting from prisoners of conscience, especially Falun Gong practitioners.

Forum on organ trafficking

Many medical professionals and representatives of the legal profession attended the forum on organ trafficking. Prof. John Forsythe, ESOT President, was the forum moderator. Convinced of the importance of this issue, he paid it special attention.

Interviewed by the media afterward, Prof. Forsythe said that the room was filled to capacity and there was much discussion on the topic, which all agreed must be solved. He indicated that organ trafficking raises concerns for all involved in organ transplantation. Concerning organ trafficking in China, the transplantation community has taken some measures to deal with it.

Canadian lawyer David Matas, an independent investigator of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP)’s live organ harvesting, attended the congress. He said that transplant professionals might see their work as beneficial, but they cannot begin to imagine how technology is being used in China to kill prisoners of conscience on demand for their organs. He said at the forum that transplant abuse in China is a big issue and that the international community must take action to stop it.

Harold King (on left), representative of DAFOH, in his booth at the congress.

Harold King, who was at the congress representing DAFOH, said that, for 16 years, the CCP regime has been trafficking in organs taken from prisoners of conscience without their consent. DAFOH wants to inform the medical community about this crime in China and stop it.

Many visited the DAFOH display. Doctor King said that, although quite a few doctors had already heard about the CCP’s practice of live organ harvesting, those who hadn’t were moved to tears to learn the gruesome details. Others were misled by the CCP’s propaganda and thought that it had already been stopped.

Prof. Forsythe indicated that he has known about China’s organ trafficking for several years and that just condemning it will not stop it. In his opinion, legal professionals should work with the medical profession to solve the issue.

Matas pointed out that the CCP regime tells people what they want to hear, such as promising to phase out organ harvesting from prisoners of conscience. But, in fact, the problem still exists.

He said there is no transparency, so it is hard to trace the source of organs. In addition, the CCP regime declines to provide the number of death-row inmates and any organ registration data. He said it would be more effective to simply stop cooperating with Chinese doctors and that such a measure would have an impact in China.

Local Authorities Attempt to Stop Lawsuits

Since the end of May, the Minghui website has received copies of more than 160,000 complaint letters against Jiang submitted to the Supreme People’s Court and the Supreme People’s Procuratorate.

Local authorities in many parts of China resorted to various means in their attempt to stop the ever-rising tide of lawsuits against Jiang.

It was reported that officials from the 610 Office, Political and Legal Affairs Committee, and Domestic Security Division in some regions forced practitioners to sign documents stating they had wrongfully accused Jiang. Some even made practitioners promise not to initiate legal action against Jiang or deny having filed lawsuits against the former dictator.

In some cities and provinces in China, post offices are ordered to retain, destroy, or reject complaint letters regarding Jiang Zemin.

79 Falun Gong Practitioners from Ningbo City, Zhejiang Province Sue Jiang Zemin Since May 2015

September 26, 2015 | By a Minghui correspondent from Zhejiang Province, China

(Minghui.org) In Ningbo City, Zhejiang Province, 79 Falun Gong practitioners have filed criminal complaints against Jiang Zemin since May 2015, according to reports compiled by the Minghui website.

Simply for refusing to give up their belief, they were arrested, detained, tortured, and had their homes ransacked and personal belongings seized by the authorities. Many also saw their families blacklisted for the practitioners’ belief, while some were also forced to pay huge fines.

Below, we profile a few of these practitioners:

Ms. Shi Xiaoying, Imprisoned for Eight Years

Ms. Shi, 51, was sentenced twice, serving eight years in prison. “I was taken to the Zhejiang Provincial Women’s Prison on January 5, 2005 for the first time,” Ms. Shi wrote in her complaint.

“The guards ordered inmates to torture and insult me. I was deprived of sleep for not giving up my faith. Later, I was put in solitary confinement and forced to sit on a small stool for hours each day.”

She was arrested and sentenced a second time on September 4, 2009. “This time it was four years in prison. I experienced the same kinds of treatment. After eight years of physical and mental torture, I lost most of my teeth. As I was less than 50, I had only a few teeth remaining.”

Ms. Shen Xiaohui (沈筱慧): Injected with Unknown Drugs at Mental Hospital

Ms. Shen, 45, went to Beijing to appeal for the right to practice Falun Gong after the persecution started in 1999. Later she was taken back to Ningbo City by the local police. However, after one month in detention, she was taken to the Kangning Mental Hospital and was subjected to forced therapy.

“I refused to wear the hospital gown, so some nurses pushed me down onto a bed and used an electric baton to shock me in the head. That kind of pain I will never forget,” Ms. Shen wrote.

“I was regularly injected with an unknown substance which harmed my central nervous system. My memory deteriorated badly. Even now I can’t recall completely how I was tortured. Later, I was told clearly by the doctor that they gave me injections because they were following their superiors’ instructions.”

Ms. Niu Zixia: Sentenced to Three Years

Ms. Niu, 45, was arrested and sentenced to three years in prison on October 13, 2008.

“I was taken to the Zhejiang Provincial Women’s Prison in July 2009,” Ms. Niu wrote in her complaint. “I was isolated in a room where two inmates monitored me 24 hours a day. I was forced to sit on a stool without moving for hours each day as a punishment for not giving up my belief.”

Ms. Huang Yaqin: Brainwashing and Forced Labor for Eight Years

Ms. Huang, 52, was sentenced to eight years in prison for practicing Falun Gong. She said in her complaint, “I was arrested in my shop on the evening of October 31, 2006. Around seven to eight plainclothes police ransacked my home.

“I was taken to the Zhejiang Provincial Women’s Prison in May 2007. Police ordered three inmates to monitor me 24 hours a day,” she said. “I was forced to watch videos slandering Falun Gong and had to write statements attacking my own belief.

“I had to do hard labor Monday to Saturday. During the work, two inmates watched me. One day I fainted and was taken to hospital for surgery.”

Ms. Wang Caizhu: Arrested Three Times

Ms. Wang, 71, was arrested three times for practicing Falun Gong.

Around a dozen officers from her local police station went to her home and ransacked it in June 2011. Her Dafa books were confiscated. She was held in the local detention center for 13 days.

Later, she was taken to the brainwashing center twice and was held there for 59 days.
