San Francisco: Calling for Help to Rescue Family Members Detained in China for Their Belief

October 28, 2016 | By Minghui correspondents Shu Jing and Mu Wenqing

( “The last time my brother called me was on April 19, 2003. I have not been able to reach him since,” recounted Huang Wanqing at a rally in front of the Chinese Consulate in San Francisco on October 25.

This was part of a series of events in San Francisco joined by thousands of Falun Dafa practitioners. More than 4,000 practitioners marched in a grand parade on October 22, and about 6,000 participated in an experience-sharing conference on October 24.

Carrying On an Unfinished Task

Both Wanqing and his younger brother Xiong started to practice Falun Dafa in 1996. Wanqing came to the U.S. one year later to pursue a Ph.D. degree. Wanqing recalled, “When former Chinese leader Jiang Zemin ordered the suppression of Falun Dafa in July 1999, Xiong was studying at a computer training center in Beijing. Like many other practitioners, Xiong went to the government agencies to appeal for Falun Dafa.”

Huang Wanqing has not heard from his brother, Huang Xiong, for 13 years. Xiong was detained and wanted by the police for practicing Falun Dafa.

In February 2000, 22-year-old Xiong was arrested in Beijing, followed by detention at a labor camp with a term of 18 months. After being released from a prison, he found that his registered residence had been canceled, and he was forced to stay away from home to avoid further persecution.

During that period of time, Xiong managed to call Wanqing from time to time. He visited many places and told people about Falun Dafa and the brutal treatment of practitioners by the communist regime. With the computer skills he had learned, Xiong produced more than 5,000 DVDs to tell people the real story of Falun Dafa. Not long after that, he was arrested, but he managed to escape.

In Shanghai, Xiong produced another 5,000 DVDs and was wanted by the police. Nonetheless, he went to Yunnan in southern China and continued his efforts to raise awareness. In addition to producing DVDs, he also tried to get the message out on a larger scale by intercepting television signals. Since his last phone call to Wanqing, not a word has been heard about him for the past 13 years.

“My brother hoped more Chinese people could know what Falun Dafa is, not just blindly believe the propaganda from the Chinese communist regime. I have to carry on his unfinished task,” said Wanqing.

With Parents Arrested, Daughters Ask for Help

Wang Xiao, a practitioner in San Francisco, said her entire family practices Falun Dafa, including her parents and younger brother. “Because of their belief, they were all arrested in 2010, kept at a detention center, and tortured.” In particular, her father was imprisoned for four years and subjected to forced labor. His lawyer license was also revoked. Her mother was put under house arrest after her release and was often harassed by police. Her brother’s workplace was forced to fire him. Their requests to obtain passports to visit her were denied.

Wang Xiao said her parents and younger brother had all been arrested previously for their belief.

Liu Danqing is a marketing director at a tech firm in the San Francisco Bay Area. Her father, Liu Xuemin, a former employee of Sinochem in Shandong Province, was arrested and detained for 15 months for practicing Falun Dafa. After being arrested again in July 2015, her father was sentenced to prison in August 2016.

“I am standing here hoping to rescue my father. In the meantime, I sincerely hope the international community will pay attention to this and help end this atrocity,” said Liu.

A practitioner speaks out for her parents, who were mistreated in China for practicing Falun Dafa.

A well-known case, Danielle Wang told the story of her family to rally participants via telephone. Her father, Wang Zhiwen, was a coordinator of the former Falun Dafa Research Society. After the persecution started on July 20, 1999, officials arrested him on that day and imprisoned him for 15 years. Even after his release in 2014, Wang was watched and harassed by police 24 hours a day.

“My husband and I managed to have all the paperwork ready this August for my father to visit us in the U.S. But at customs in Guangdong Province, officials destroyed his passport and barred him from traveling outside China. It was a painful experience for us, and so far we have been unable to find a solution.” She hopes more people can help her father and many other mistreated Falun Dafa practitioners to regain their freedom.

Passerby: Persecution of Falun Dafa “Horrible”

Emil, a tourist from France, watched the rally with his girlfriend. Upon hearing from the family members of many Falun Dafa practitioners detained for a long time or missing for over 10 years, he said it is hard to imagine something like this happening in modern times. “This [persecution] is horrible. I will check this out on the internet and support you with an online petition.”

Omar is a physician. He has read about the Chinese regime’s harvesting of organs from living Falun Dafa practitioners imprisoned for their beliefs. “Transplant organs must come from voluntary donors. Otherwise, it should be forbidden,” Omar said.

Zara Hayes, a ballet instructor, had not heard about the persecution in China. She said no person and no government has the authority to kill others for their organs. “Whether this happens because of money, power, or greed, it must stop. As human beings, we have to care for each other.”

San Francisco: Falun Gong Practitioners March on Golden Gate Bridge

October 28, 2016 | By Minghui correspondents Li Xinci, Zhang Yun, and Tang Xiuming

( About 1,000 Falun Gong practitioners marched across the Golden Gate Bridge on October 23, one day prior to the annual U.S. Western Falun Dafa Experience Sharing Conference. Starting from Golden Gate Bridge Square, across the bridge to Vista Point in Marin County, the three-mile-long march was to call for support to end the severe suppression of Falun Gong in China.

About 1,000 Falun Gong practitioners march across the Golden Gate Bridge on October 23, raising awareness about the persecution in China.

News reporter: “This [Persecution] Is Insane”

Esvim from Santa Monica in Southern California is a news reporter that covers political news. She and her assistant Les met practitioners during the march. “I have heard about black market organ trade in China. But such a large scale operation of forced organ harvesting is even worse—this is insane,” she said.

She encouraged practitioners to continue their efforts, saying, “You are doing the right thing. The U.S. government needs to take more action to press China on organ transplant tourism, as well as work with other countries to stop such a crime.” She said he will check into this and help spread the information.

San Francisco resident Adam and his mother were walking on the bridge when they encountered the Falun Gong march. Adam thanked practitioners for bringing the issue of organ harvesting to his attention, “This suddenly opened my eyes.”

Adam works for a social media company and says he will let more people know about this. He and his mother said the march was “peaceful” and “beautiful.”

Adam, an employee of a social media company who was visiting the Golden Gate Bridge with his mother Tamar, said the Falun Gong march opened his eyes.

Law Professionals: I Support You

Linda, a retired assistant lawyer of a child protection organization, said she had not heard about forced organ harvesting. “I support you,” she said to a practitioner. Pointing to a small yellow flag a practitioner held with words of “Falun Dafa is good,” she added, “If I can have such a flag, I will walk with you to stop the persecution.”

Retired assistant lawyer Linda said she supports Falun Gong.

Lin, a retired Australian lawyer, was visiting the Golden Gate Bridge with her son Nicolas, a college student in the U.S. “We know the communist regime wants to control people’s minds and I believe your message is reaching a lot of people today,” she said.

Retired Australian lawyer Lin and her son said the event is very important.

Chinese Tourists: Very Different from China

Mr. Xia, a visitor from Hubei Province in China, was surprised to the large-scale event by Falun Gong practitioners. “It is impossible to see a large group do these exercises and march like this in China.”

Another China tourist walked with practitioners for a while. He decided to withdraw his membership in the Chinese communist organizations to take a stance against the regime’s brutal crimes and said he would read more about Falun Gong.

San Francisco: Character Formation by Falun Dafa Practitioners in Front of City Hall

October 25, 2016 | By Minghui correspondents Hua Qing and De Xiang

( Hundreds of Falun Dafa practitioners gathered in front of the San Francisco City Hall on October 23, 2016, to form a Falun emblem and other related patterns. This was one of a series of activities associated with the upcoming annual Western Falun Dafa Experience-Sharing Conference on October 24.

Introduced by Mr. Li Hongzhi in May 1992, Falun Dafa is now practiced in more than 100 countries. The emblem consists of one large 卍 symbol in the center, surrounded by four small 卍 symbols and four Taiji symbols. The principles of Falun Dafa are Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance.

We Need More Activities Like This

Impressed by the event, a group of tourists from Germany came up and talked with the practitioners. One tourist was a retired engineer from Nuremberg, who said he liked the meditation because it was “peaceful” and “it gives energy.” He took many photos of the event and was shocked to hear about organ harvesting from living Falun Dafa practitioners in China.

He added, “We need more activities like this because we need to let people know what is really going on in China.”

Four college students visiting San Francisco were also surprised to hear about the mistreatment of Falun Dafa practitioners in China for their beliefs. One of them, Mustafa, said, “This [the persecution] is horrible. How could one person kill others for their organs?” Another student said it is basic humanity for people to respect each other.

A practitioner explains to passersby about Falun Dafa and the suppression in China.

Mr. and Ms. Bozena, both immigrants from the Czech Republic, said they both believe that the practitioners’ activity was important. “I like it because it looks great,” said Ms. Bozena, who works in an opera house near the city hall.

Mr. Bozena said he knows the communist regime well from his own experience, and hopes the atrocity will end soon.

Mr. and Ms. Bozena said the human rights violations against Falun Dafa practitioners in China must stop.

Chinese Immigrant: Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance are Universal Values

Hu Jinwei from China said he was happy to see the character formation event. “I heard about Falun Dafa back in China and I know the suppression is very bad. It is terrible that things like forced organ harvesting could happen in contemporary society.”

Hu said that he supported the practitioners, and that the Chinese communist regime was doomed because of the bad deeds it has committed throughout history that harmed the Chinese people. “Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance are traditional values. The Chinese communist regime is destroying the essence of Chinese tradition and culture.”

Hu Jinwei, an immigrant from China, said that the Chinese communist regime is destroying Chinese culture by suppressing Falun Dafa.

Speaking of the hate propaganda the communist regime has spread in China to mislead people, Hu encourage Chinese to think independently. He said, “When I was in China, I could overcome the Internet blockade with some software. I hope more people will do the same, that is, get access to uncensored information before reaching a conclusion.”

“After all, as human beings we have to be clear on what is good and what is bad in this world,” he said.

Falun Gong Wins Support at Mid-Autumn Street Fair in San Francisco Chinatown

September 14, 2016 | By a Falun Gong practitioner in San Francisco, CA

( The annual Mid-Autumn Street Fair was held in Chinatown in San Francisco, California on September 10 and 11, 2016. Falun Gong practitioners set up a stand as in previous years, to raise awareness of the Chinese Communist Party’s (CCP) persecution and the CCP’s state-sanctioned organ harvesting from living Falun Gong practitioners. Near 600 people signed the petition against the CCP’s live organ harvesting within the two-day period.

People sign a petition against the CCP’s live organ harvesting.

Falun Gong is a peaceful practice rooted in Chinese traditional culture. It spread quickly and became very popular when it was made public in 1992 in China, due to its health benefits and ability to help people raise their moral character. Jiang Zemin, the then head of the CCP, initiated the brutal persecution in an attempt to eliminate Falun Gong by any means. The state-sanctioned campaign is still ongoing.

Jiang’s faction in the CCP regime musters all of the state machinery to persecute Falun Gong, including spreading lies to defame and slander the practice and to cover up the persecution. Chinese embassies and consulates spread lies to mislead people and incite hatred towards the practice outside of China.

Many Chinese people have been misled by the CCP’s propaganda and information censorship. To counter that, Falun Gong practitioners keep raising awareness of the persecution. More and more people have come to know that Falun Gong is good and that the CCP’s persecution is completely wrong.

Mr. Lai, a resident of San Francisco, passed by the Falun Gong stand and signed the petition against the CCP’s live organ harvesting. He said, “I know about the persecution, as I watch NTD TV and read The Epoch Times in both English and Chinese. I know about the CCP’s live organ harvesting for huge profits, and the US Congress passed a resolution condemning the live organ harvesting. The CCP has committed many crimes. It is a true demon, and we must stop it.”

Many Chinese people from all walks of life signed the petition against the live organ harvesting. An older man said, “I am nearly 90 years old. I have never heard of such an absurd thing. It is against humanity!” He signed the petition and thanked the practitioners.

Some people heard about the live organ harvesting for the first time. A family of three listened to an explanation of the issue. The husband said, “It is horrible! No one should do this. The CCP is finished!” He signed the petition right away and asked his wife and daughter to sign it, too.

Tina, a medical professional, was appalled after listening to the explanation about the CCP’s live organ harvesting. She indicated that no human being should participate in live organ harvesting. She said after signing the petition, “I hope my signature can help stop it.”

Carlos from Cuba and his friend went to Chinatown and saw the signature collection effort. He explained what was going on to his friend in Spanish. He signed the petition and asked his friend to sign, too. He said, “I am from Cuba. I know that the communist party commits countless crimes. Live organ harvesting for profit is an atrocity. It must be stopped!”

An Expression of Joy and Gratitude: Celebrating Falun Dafa Day in San Francisco

May 09, 2016

( May 13 marks the 17th annual World Falun Dafa Day and the 65th birthday of the founder of Falun Gong, Master Li Hongzhi. Falun Gong practitioners from all cultural background in the San Francisco Bay area held a series of events to celebrate this joyful holiday and express their appreciation to Master Li.

After doing the Falun Gong exercises together in front of City Hall, practitioners took a group photo and wished Master Li Happy Birthday. At noon, a celebration march stepped off from City Hall, winding through downtown, and ended in Chinatown.

After the parade, practitioners staged a music and arts performance in Chinatown, including singing, instrumental numbers, dance, and poetry readings.

Practitioners Express Gratitude to Master Li

Several practitioners gave speeches during the afternoon event, sharing their experiences of cultivating Falun Gong.

Ms. Yang LI, 69, told a touching and amazing story.

Ms. Yang Li thanked Master Li Hongzhi for renewing her life.

Ms. Yang was known as a very sick person in her workplace back in China. More than ten diseases in multiple organs, including her liver, heart, lung, eyes, nose, shoulders, and spine, bothered her every day, and she couldn’t go anywhere without bringing her medications. In 1990, after vomiting blood at work, she was diagnosed with stomach cancer. She had surgery, and the doctors told her that her life expectancy was approximately 3 years.

In 1994, Ms. Yang had severe pain in her elbow, and founds that she’d developed a 3-inch tumor. A year later, her doctor told her that the cancer may have spread to her nose, as a small tumor was found in her nostril.

Ms. Yang and her family were desperate. She had a chronic low grade fever. Her legs were too swollen to walk. She could not climb stairs without help. She bemoaned her fate, for at only 40 years old, she was facing the end of her life.

That same year, a friend gave her a copy of Zhuan Falun (the main book of Falun Gong). She was impressed by the central teaching of Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance, and decided to take up the practice.

However, she was too weak to walk to the exercise site, which was just across the street from her home. A practitioner told her to read the book and do the exercises at home. After the winter, she regained some energy and joined the other practitioners at the exercise site in April 1996.

“I tried to follow the teaching of Falun Gong, and to be a good person. My body changed gradually. Without my really noticing, the tumor on my elbow disappeared. What was amazing was one day, during the exercises, the tumor in my nose fell off into my mouth. At that very moment, all the symptoms I had around my nose and throat, including the left side of my face being paralyzed, pain in my ears and nose, watering left eye, bleeding in the left nostril, and low grade fever, were gone all of sudden,” Ms. Yang recounted in her speech.

After that, other diseases that had bothered her for more than two decades were also healed gradually, and she never needed to see a doctor after that. Her whole workplace was amazed. More than 20 colleagues of hers also took up Falun Gong cultivation practice after witnessing her miracles.

“I am 69 years old today. Look at me. Can you believe that I used to have more than 10 diseases including cancer? I am energetic and happy now. It is Master Li who renewed my life,” Ms. Yang said.

“I am grateful to have this opportunity today to express my appreciation to Master Li on World Falun Dafa Day, and wish him a happy birthday!”

Falun Gong practitioner and computer engineer Chris Kitze thanked Falun Gong for giving him wisdom at work, helping him quit alcohol, saving his marriage, and improving his temper.

Ms. Wang Feng and her family took part in the Dafa Day celebration. Ms. Wang said that she found the meaning of life in Falun Gong.

Mr. James Qiu thanked Falun Gong for healing his mother’s insomnia and improving his temper.

Spectators Show Support for Falun Gong

Sheila Hall, a local teacher, was attracted by the group exercises. She joined in, and learned the exercises.

Afterwards she said, “I feel so comfortable. This is my first time. I like it very much. This is one of my best experiences. I feel relaxed. It is beautiful.”

Sheila said that she would like to bring her friends to learn the Falun Gong exercises.

Mary from Hawaii enjoyed the march. “The principle of Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance is great,” she said. Then she added, “Everybody should have the freedom of belief.”

Mr. Hong from mainland China said to practitioners, “Falun Gong teaches people to be good and to treat others nicely. I support Falun Gong. If everybody follows the principle of Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance, then the world would be a much better place. I don’t believe the Chinese government’s propaganda, and I strongly support Falun Gong’s lawsuits against the murderers in the persecution.”

A group of Chinese tourists took video footage of the march. One of them said to practitioners, “We are from mainland China. Can you say a few words to our friends in China?”

The practitioners said, “Falun Dafa is good; Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance is good; Quit the communist party for a bright future.”

The practitioners were pleased to learn that everybody in the group had already quit the party!

San Francisco, USA: Falun Gong Shines in St. Patrick’s Day Parade

March 14, 2016

( The Divine Land Marching Band, composed entirely of Falun Gong practitioners, participated in the 165th St. Patrick’s Day parade in San Francisco on March 12. They joined forces with 140 other groups to enliven the St. Patrick’s Day festivities in this hugely popular event. More than 100,000 people watched the parade, which has become one of the largest events in the Bay Area.

The Divine Land Marching Band, consisting entirely of Falun Gong practitioners, was warmly welcomed at the 165th annual San Francisco St. Patrick’s Day Parade.

“Falun Gong is everywhere!” Ms. Lu shouted excitedly. Ms. Lu had just arrived from China, where, sadly, Falun Gong is being brutally persecuted.

“I just got here today. It is very exciting to see Falun Gong here,” Ms. Lu said. “They are excellent. This is my first time to see Falun Gong in a parade. They are great!!”

As the band passed by the reviewing stage, the host introduced them to the spectators as the first-place winner in last year’s Columbus Day parade in San Francisco.

“Falun Gong practitioners follow the principles of truthfulness, compassion, and forbearance,” the host announced.

Leum Fross, one of the organizers of the parade, likes the Falun Gong band very much.

“They are well trained, and their performances touch people’s hearts,” said Leum Fross, one the parade organizers. “The principles of truthfulness, compassion, and forbearance are great, and I completely support them. I am glad that the performers can freely practice [Falun Gong] in San Francisco.”

Another organizer, Valerie Magu, made the comment that the principles of truthfulness, compassion, and forbearance are universal and should ideally be followed by everybody. “I admire what Falun Gong practitioners have done,” she said. “Thank you for the excellent performances.”

Parade spectators were also enthusiastic about the band.

Cisser Damaro (right) and his friend said of the band, “Falun Gong is the best!”

Ryan Hoffman visited China this past January and experienced the government’s censorship firsthand. “The communist party there does not allow Facebook. They control other media, too.” Ryan added that, as an American, he is against the persecution of Falun Gong. “It’s immoral,” he said.

Jane Okamora noted that the principles of truthfulness, compassion, and forbearance are beautiful. “When the Falun Gong band passed by me today during the parade, I felt so relaxed,” she said. “I can feel the pain that practitioners in China suffer. The persecution is really horrible.”

San Francisco: Falun Gong New Year Parade Well Received

February 15, 2016 | By Wang Ying in San Francisco

( To wish the local community a happy Chinese New Year, Falun Gong practitioners held a parade procession in downtown San Francisco and nearby Chinatown on February 13, 2016, the fifth day of the Chinese New Year.

Joined by supporters, the procession started at noon in front of City Hall. A procession of “heavenly maidens” was followed by the Divine Land Marching Band, practitioners demonstrating the exercises, banners calling for an end to the persecution, and a float. Earlier that morning the practitioners did the exercises together in front of City Hall.

The banner reads, “Falun Gong Practitioners Wish Everyone a Happy Chinese New Year!”

The Suppression Is Wrong

Entrepreneur Derek Bacon said that his “hobby” is meditation. “When I heard Falun Gong practitioners would have a parade today, I knew I would learn something new.” Pointing to a banner that said “Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance,” he said he liked the message because it relates to everyone.

Bacon already knew about the persecution of Falun Gong in China, and said he thought the persecution would end soon, “It won’t last much longer. Because of activities like this, people know you are doing the right thing. The suppression is wrong, and harvesting organs from living practitioners is wrong.”

Entrepreneur Derek Bacon said the principles of Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance relate to everyone.

Broad Support

Vinal Gadam and Vilu from India said they were enjoying the parade. “It looks awesome and very peaceful. The band members are well trained. I like everything about it,” said Vinal Gadam with a thumbs-up.

Mr. Wu and his family from Taiwan saw the parade in Chinatown. “It adds flavor to the community. The performance is great, too,” he remarked.

An immigrant from Vietnam that lives near Chinatown said, “I love Falun Gong events.” He said he supports practitioners, and has started to read the Falun Gong books online.

One couple, who said they had already heard about the suppression of Falun Gong in China, expressed their hope that the human rights violations would stop. After hearing about the health benefits of the practice, the wife took some information and said they would look into it.

Raising Awareness

One young man, a bike rider, was shocked by the brutality of the persecution. He said, “It’s horrible that so many people were tortured or even died for their belief. Please, tell me how I can help with this.”

After talking about it with a practitioner, the young man said he would definitely let more people know about what was going on, “It’s something very important, and we should not ignore it.”

Quitting the Party

Mr. Dong, a visitor from Hong Kong, took many photos, and said he liked the peaceful group exercise, “People should have freedom of belief, and practitioners should have the right to practice their meditation.”

Growing up in mainland China, Mr. Dong said he used to be misled by Chinese Communist Party (CCP) propaganda. “Luckily I eventually went to school in Hong Kong.” There he saw what Falun Gong really is, and began to support practitioners.

“The CCP should not have persecuted Falun Gong in the first place,” said Mr. Dong, who agreed to renounce his affiliation with the Party by quitting its Young Pioneers organization, which he joined decades ago.
