20,000 Toronto Residents Support Falun Gong’s Lawsuits against Jiang Zemin

February 27, 2016

(Minghui.org) A petition signed by 20,000 Toronto residents was sent to the Chinese Supreme Procuratorate on February 22, calling for an investigation into the crimes committed by former head of the Chinese Communist Party Jiang Zemin in the persecution of Falun Gong.

That same day, local Falun Gong practitioners held a demonstration at the intersection of St. George and Bloor Streets, close to the Chinese consulate, in support of the lawsuits being filed against Jiang. It was an opportunity to tell the public what role Jiang has played in the persecution.

Practitioners in Toronto have regularly held similar events since last October, and successfully collected 20,000 signatures of support.

From May 2015 to today, 205,000 Falun Gong practitioners have filed 173,000 lawsuits against Jiang Zemin for launching and directing the persecution of Falun Gong in China. More and more people all over the world have joined the campaign to support their efforts. In Asia alone, more than a million people have signed the petition calling for Jiang to be brought to justice.

Margaret Dinsdale, a local writer in Toronto, talked to practitioners for a long time at the event on February 22. She had heard about the state-sanctioned organ harvesting from Falun Gong practitioners, which shocked her a few years ago, and made her look for more information about Falun Gong and the persecution.

Margaret Dinsdale, a writer in Toronto, believes that it is important for more people to be aware of the human rights violations taking place in China. “Persecution is definitely wrong and should be stopped immediately,” she said.

Ms. Dinsdale was glad to see the banners denouncing forced organ harvesting at the event.

“I am writing a book on this topic,” she said. “I want to draw the public’s attention to this. When more people know about it, they will take action to stop such a brutal crime.

“You know, when I first told my friends about forced organ harvesting, very few believed it. I’ve been collecting evidence so that the whole world will know it’s true.”

She wished practitioners the best of luck filing lawsuits against Jiang Zemin.

Seventy-year-old Pedro, a local artist, read all the banners at the event and said he knew about the persecution.

“The new Canadian government should not ignore this. We must, the whole world must, do something to end the persecution and help to bring Jiang Zemin to justice,” he said.

“The Chinese government wants Falun Gong practitioners’ organs, because they are healthy due to this practice.”

Pedro himself is learning the Falun Gong exercises.

“The government should promote such a good practice, instead of suppressing it,” he believes.

Pedro encouraged practitioners to hold more events like this, so that more people will be informed about the persecution.

Gwen Macgregor, a PhD candidate at the University of Toronto, signed in support of Falun Gong’s lawsuits. “It is incredible that the Chinese government persecutes such a peaceful cultivation group,” she said.

Stamistan Gulegsky, a student from Ukraine, said that the instigators of the persecution should be brought to justice.

2,648 in Zhaoyuan City, Shandong Province Pledge to Support Lawsuits Against Jiang Zemin

January 18, 2016 | By a Minghui correspondent in Shandong Province, China

(Minghui.org) Since October 2015, 2,648 Zhaoyuan City residents signed letters to show their support for lawsuits against former dictator Jiang Zemin for his role in persecuting Falun Dafa. The letters were submitted and accepted by the Chinese Supreme People’s Procuratorate. The most recent letter of complaint was signed by 795 non-practitioners.

Below are statements from some of the residents who signed.

A vegetable vendor said, “Jiang Zemin has done nothing right! I’m signing my name to complain about him. Falun Dafa practitioners are good people. Please give me a copy of Zhuan Falun. I’d like to read it.”

When an elderly man was asked if he wanted to sign the letter, he responded, “Falun Dafa is truly an upright practice. I had colon rectal cancer. Had I not recited ‘Falun Dafa is good,’ I would probably be dead by now. Jiang Zemin is a rotten man, I want to report him. I will testify against his wrongdoings.”

An 80-year-old farmer declared, “I know the information on the pamphlet about Falun Dafa is the truth. Jiang Zemin has committed a serious crime against practitioners, and he should be placed on trial. I’m signing my name to support Falun Dafa, and I will speak up for practitioners on judgment day.”

As soon as he heard about the lawsuit, one young man said with emotion, “I will sign! I will sign ten times if you need it! I hope practitioners win the lawsuit.”

Seven hundred and ninety-five non-practitioners signed the most recent complaint letter. The following is an excerpt of the letter that was sent to the Chinese Supreme People’s Procuratorate:

“Jiang Zemin has deceived people and led them to hate Falun Dafa. Jiang utilized the media and the police to create the ‘Tiananmen Self-Immolation Hoax’ to slander Falun Dafa.

“Jiang also sanctioned the forced organ harvesting from practitioners. In September 2014, a senior Chinese official confirmed that Jiang was directly involved. According to a secret phone recording, the former PLA General Logistics Department of Health Minister, Bai Shuzhong, said, ‘It was President Jiang who instructed us to carry out the forced organ harvest…’”

In their complaint letters Zhaoyuan residents wrote, “Jiang Zemin is not human. He abused his power, wrecked the country, and ruined people’s lives. We were deceived by his lies. We want to report him.”

“I hope the Supreme People’s Procuratorate will deliver justice and punish Jiang accordingly. Only when the Supreme People’s Procuratorate rules China according to the law, will people live in peace and prosperity,” another resident wrote.

Background

In 1999 Jiang Zemin, then head of the CCP, overrode other Politburo standing committee members and launched the violent suppression of Falun Dafa. The persecution has killed countless Dafa practitioners over the past 16 years. Many have been murdered for their organs. Others have been imprisoned and tortured for their belief. Jiang Zemin is directly responsible for the inception and continuation of this brutal persecution.

Under Jiang’s direction, the CCP established an extralegal security force – the 610 Office, with the power to override the police and judicial systems. The 610 Office carries out Jiang’s directives to eradicate Falun Gong: ruin practitioners’ reputations, cut off their financial resources, and destroy them physically.

Jiang stepped down as head of the CCP in 2002, but he has exerted much power from the shadows through a network of officials he put in power.

Chinese law now allows citizens to be plaintiffs in criminal cases, and many practitioners are exercising that right to file criminal complaints against the former dictator.

Woman, 80, Dies after Police Threaten to Punish Her for Suing Former Chinese Dictator

January 10, 2016

(Minghui.org) Ms. Wu Qiu’e lost consciousness shortly after a group of policemen broke into her home to serve a notice threatening to punish her for filing a criminal complaint against former Chinese dictator Jiang Zemin. The 80-year-old woman from Daxing’anling, Heilongjiang Province died days later.

Ms. Wu filed a lawsuit in July 2015, accusing Jiang of initiating the persecution of Falun Gong, a meditation practice that restored her health and gave her a happy life.

The police showed up at her home on October 28, 2015. They forcibly took her fingerprints and warned her of upcoming punishment. Ms. Wu passed out not long after the officers left.

Her children rushed her to the hospital later that day after finding out what happened. Despite resuscitation efforts, Ms. Wu passed away.

Her family suspects her sudden death was a result of the police threat, as she had been so healthy over the years that she lived alone comfortably in a sixth-floor apartment.

Meanwhile, a large number of banners and posters were seen in supportive of the lawsuits or calling for an end to the suppression.

Yi County, Liaoning Province

More than 300 signatures were recently collected in Yi County, Liaoning Province, on suing Jiang.

These people have various reasons on why they think Jiang should be brought to justice for persecuting Falun Gong. Below are some examples:

“Some of my friends and neighbors are practitioners. Falun Gong have changed them for better.”

“After practitioners told me to recite ‘Falun Dafa is good’ and ‘Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance is good’, I followed their advice and my life is much better now.”

“The suppression [of Falun Gong] is horrible and crazy, especially organ harvest from living practitioners.”

“It is everyone’s responsibility to help the innocent and safeguard the justice.”

Nearly 4,000 Petitions in Shenzhou, Hebei Province

Between October 10 and December 10, a total of 3,920 petitions were received from Shenzhou City, Hebei Province. Addressed to the Supreme Procuratorate, these documents highlight the illegal activities conducted by Jiang, especially in the persecution of Falun Gong.

Many people were excited about this. “Jiang should have been arrested a long time ago—he did so many bad things and disgraced our nation,” commented one person.“Let us know when he [Jiang] is on trial. I will buy many fireworks to celebrate!” another person remarked.

In addition to Shenzhou, 221 residents in Tangshan City and 138 in Liangcun Development Zone near Shijiazhuang signed petitions in favor of the lawsuits. Both of these places are in Hebei Province.

“Every Singaporean Should Sign the Petition to Bring Jiang Zemin to Justice”

December 17, 2015

(Minghui.org) Echoing the recent wave of lawsuits against former Chinese dictator Jiang Zemin for his role in the persecution of Falun Gong, a signature drive was held in Singapore’s Hong Lim Park on December 14. Local residents and visitors from different cultural backgrounds warmly supported the activity and called upon the Chinese regime to investigate Jiang’s crimes committed over the course of the 16-year persecution.

As of December 5, less than a week before World Human Rights Day, more than one million Asians had signed a petition supporting the 200,000 lawsuits filed by Falun Gong practitioners against Jiang Zemin. According to many who signed the petition, one of the most common motivations to speak out thus has been the brutal state-sanctioned organ harvesting from living Falun Gong practitioners.

The signature drive to bring Jiang Zemin to justice receives wide support.

Many local residents expressed their support for the efforts to bring Jiang to justice. Resha Motilal, a 28-year-old financial analyzer, was horrified by the brutality of the persecution. “It is incredible,” she said. “Every Singaporean should sign the petition to help bring Jiang Zemin to justice and stop the persecution.”

Sukri Kadola, a 43-year-old interior designer, already knew a great deal about the persecution of Falun Gong in China. He praised Falun Gong’s peaceful resistance.

“Although I don’t practice Falun Gong, I completely support the signature drive and the peaceful event today,” he said to a practitioner. “This kind of activity can help people understand what is happening in China, and will draw attention from the international community, which will exert pressure on China to stop the persecution.”

Kadola added emphatically, “No matter how powerful a government is, it should not abuse its power and do whatever it wants. Everybody should take action to stop the persecution.”

After signing the petition, Rakiv Uddin, a 32-year-old Bengali, went back to his workplace and asked his co-workers to sign as well. “The torture really saddens me,” he said. “It should be stopped immediately. I don’t understand why people are being persecuted for their belief in China. Everybody should have freedom of belief.”

Several visitors from France, the Netherlands, and Canada told practitioners that they had seen similar events in their home countries. They all condemned Jiang’s crimes against humanity and signed the petition.

Christy, a spokesman for a British human rights organization, believes that it is a shame that the persecution has been going on for so long. He said that it is the largest yet “quietest” case of violence and torture in the world.

Christy blamed much of the mainstream media, which have largely kept silent about the persecution of Falun Gong because of political or economic pressure from the Chinese government. “They are the accomplices,” he said. “The media all over the world should help investigate the killing of Falun Gong practitioners.”

Mr. Zheng, a Chinese student, was happy to see the Falun Gong exercise demonstration. He said, “It’s very important for Chinese to learn what Falun Gong really is.”

Back in China, a number of people around Zheng were arrested for practicing Falun Gong. The government propaganda caused him to fear Falun Gong, but he wanted to learn the truth. Zheng managed to break through the Internet blockade and read many Falun Gong publications, including Zhuan Falun and Nine Commentaries on the Communist Party.

What he read changed his opinion. “I was glad to learn what was really happening. Falun Gong’s teaching, Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance, is great. It is a righteous cultivation practice,” Zheng said.

Zheng was pleased to sign the petition. “Organ harvesting is too brutal,” he said. “Jiang has killed so many people. He is a real terrorist!”

Over 300 Falun Gong Practitioners from Sanhe, Hebei Province Sue Jiang Zemin

December 14, 2015

(Minghui.org) More than 300 Falun Gong practitioners from Sanhe City, Hebei Province have filed criminal complaints against Jiang Zemin between May 27 and December 7, 2015, according to reports compiled by the Minghui website.

The practitioners charge the former Chinese dictator with initiating the brutal suppression of Falun Gong and hold him responsible for the tremendous suffering inflicted upon them by his campaign. The criminal complaints were mailed to the Supreme People’s Court and Supreme People’s Procuratorate.

Many of these practitioners recounted how Falun Gong returned them to health and gave them a new outlook on life. Their dream to live a healthier and happier life, however, was shattered when Jiang Zemin launched a nationwide campaign to eradicate the practice in 1999.

Simply for refusing to give up their belief, these law-abiding citizens were arrested, detained, tortured, and had their homes ransacked and personal belongings seized by the communist authorities. Below, we profile the stories of a few of these practitioners:

Ms. Jia Xueyun, 53, Remains Incapacitated after 15 Years

Once a healthy woman with a big smile, Ms. Jia Xueyun was rendered disabled after three months of torture and abuse at Kaiping Labor Camp in 2000. The guards there beat her on a regular basis, and often stuffed her mouth with soiled sanitary pads.

Her family could hardly recognize Ms. Jia when she was released 15 years ago. She couldn’t move or talk. She also had needle marks all over her arms. Her family suspected that she might have been injected with unknown drugs.

Today, 15 years later, Ms. Jia remains mentally challenged. Her short-term memory is gone. While she can manage to stand up on her own for a few seconds and walk several steps with support, she relies on others for all her daily needs.

Her two sons were only teenagers when she became disabled. They couldn’t understand how their mother was reduced to an invalid simply for practicing Falun Gong. Her husband had to work extra hard to take care of her and their children.

Ms. Jia’s parents were so traumatized by her deterioration that they both developed symptoms of stroke shortly after her release. Both have since passed away.

Husband and Wife Sue Jiang Zemin for Repeated Arrests

Mr. Lu Chunyang, 53, was an office director for the Sanhe City Export Company. His wife, Ms. Li Yonglian, once taught at the Fourth Elementary School in Sanhe City. Both lost their jobs within just a few years of the persecution of Falun Gong.

Both husband and wife were also repeatedly arrested. In particular, Ms. Li was arrested five times and once spent three years in a forced labor camp. They were also forced to pay a total of 19,985 yuan in “fines” for their refusal to give up their belief in Falun Gong.

Mr. Lu wrote in his complaint, “Not only my wife and I suffered tremendously, my parents and daughter were also traumatized. My father’s health deteriorated quickly and he passed in 2009 after several hospitalizations. My mother developed dementia after our repeated arrests and now requires around-the-clock care. My daughter, a middle-schooler when the persecution started, was bullied and struggled to focus on her studies.”

Retired Government Official Holds Jiang Responsible for His Arrests

Mr. Lu Baofa, 73, was the security section chief for the Sanhe City Commerce Bureau.

He recalled in his complaint how he kicked his 40-year habit of smoking and drinking just nine days after he started practicing Falun Gong.

Mr. Lu, however, was arrested on July 20, 1999, the very day Jiang launched the persecution of Falun Gong. The local police kept him in custody for 6 days before moving him back to his workplace, where he was detained for more than 40 days.

Mr. Lu was completely cut off from the outside world while under “house arrest” at his workplace. He was forced to watch videos slandering Falun Gong day in and day out. Despite the pressure, he refused to give up Falun Gong.

Farmer Tortured and Forced to Do Hard Labor

Mr. Pan Zhenfang, a farmer from Xinji Town, was arrested a total of 12 times over the course of the persecution.

In 2000 alone, he was taken into custody four times and forced to pay a fine of 3,000 yuan. His wife Zhang Chunhua was sent to a labor camp in late April that year.

Mr. Pan was brutally tortured after he was taken to a forced labor camp in early 2001. For 15 days straight, he was cuffed to a metal ring anchored to the floor, unable to sit or stand. The guards used 4 electric batons simultaneously to shock him. He passed out, only to be woken up for further electric shock. One person later burned the soles of Mr. Pan’s feet with a cigarette butt.

He was later moved to a factory to do hard labor. The job involved using toxic materials, yet he and other Falun Gong practitioners were not given any protective gear. Moreover, they were required to finish their tasks within a short period of time. Anyone who failed to meet the deadline was brutally beaten.

The factory was later shut down after repeated complaints from locals for the toxic fumes. Mr. Pan was then transferred to another factory for more hard labor.

When he was finally released, Mr. Pan learned that his father had passed away shortly after his arrest in 2001. The local police constantly harassed his family during his entire labor camp detention.

Wedding Photographer Stripped and Exposed to the Elements

Meng Zhaomin, a 43-year-old wedding photographer, credits Falun Gong for curing his Hepatitis B, yet he was arrested repeatedly for practicing Falun Gong.

He recalled one particular arrest episode in his criminal complaint, “I was talking to Pan Zhenfang [the above mentioned farmer-practitioner] and another practitioner in my studio when city Party Secretary Yang Shaolin broke in and ordered the three of us arrested. We were taken to the police station, where Mr. Pan and I were stripped down to our underwear and cuffed to a concrete pole in the courtyard. It was a blustery day with snow on the ground, but Yang and the police refused to give us back our clothes, despite repeated pleas from onlookers.

When we were finally freed from the pole, our bodies were numb. We couldn’t lift our arms or walk properly.”

Ten officers broke into Mr. Meng’s studio again on June 4, 2004 and ransacked his business and upstairs residence. He was held at a brainwashing center for 45 days, during which time his wife was never told of his whereabouts and searched for him everywhere.

On February 5, 2009, Mr. Meng and his wife were arrested again. Domestic Security Office Head Shi Liandong slapped his face hard and knocked him down repeatedly. Shi even threatened to throw Mr. Meng out of a fourth-floor window. During the next four months, Mr. Meng was kept in a small room inside a brainwashing center.

Brothers and Their Wives Forced to Leave Home to Avoid Arrest

Zhang Jun and his younger brother Zhang Yong and their wives all practice Falun Gong. The two couples were repeatedly arrested and at one time they had to live away home to avoid further arrests, leaving their elderly parents and young children to fend for themselves.

Zhang Yong wrote his complaint, “On March 3, 2000, we went to Beijing to appeal for Falun Gong, but were arrested the very same day. My wife, Chen Fengqin, and I, as well as my brother Zhang Jun and his wife Li Fengqin, were interrogated separately. I was beaten for more than one hour.”

The brothers’ father paid 4,000 yuan to get his sons and daughters-in-law released. The police have yet to return 2,500 yuan of the bail money to the family.

In August 2001, the two brothers and their wives left home to avoid further arrest. The police launched a manhunt for them and sent agents to keep tabs on their families. The police often barged into their houses without warning, terrifying their parents and children.

In 1999, Jiang Zemin, as head of the Chinese Communist Party, overrode other Politburo standing committee members and launched the violent suppression of Falun Gong.

The persecution has led to the deaths of many Falun Gong practitioners over the past 16 years. More have been tortured for their belief and even killed for their organs. Jiang Zemin is directly responsible for the inception and continuation of the brutal persecution.

Under his personal direction, the Chinese Communist Party established an extralegal security organ, the “610 Office,” on June 10, 1999. The organization overrides police forces and the judicial system in carrying out Jiang’s directive regarding Falun Gong: to ruin their reputations, cut off their financial resources, and destroy them physically.

Chinese law now allows for citizens to be plaintiffs in criminal cases, and many practitioners are exercising that right to file criminal complaints against the former dictator.
